General Assembly and Finishing Instructions for 3D Printed Kits

These instructions are provided to help you achieve the best possible results when assembling and finishing your unfinished 3D Printed kits.

I. Preparation and Finishing (For Best Results)

Since these kits are printed using either filament or resin, they require finishing steps to achieve a smooth, professional look.

Sanding and Clean-up:

Remove Supports and Blemishes: Carefully inspect each piece. You will need to lightly sand the surface to remove any remaining support nubs, layer lines, and small blemishes.

Tip: Use fine-grit sandpaper (e.g., 220 grit and higher) for a smooth finish.

Priming (Recommended):

After sanding, apply a thin coat of primer. This step is crucial for paint adhesion and hiding small imperfections.

Recommendation: While Tamiya brand primer is preferred, most other quality hobby primers will work well on PLA.

Painting:

Once primed, paint your pieces using your preferred brand and type of paint.

Recommendation: Acrylic paints are highly effective on primed PLA, but nearly any paint suitable for plastics will adhere well after the priming step.

Paint Before Assembly: For the best and most thorough coverage (especially in corners and details), it is highly recommended to paint all parts individually before assembly.

II. Assembly and Gluing

Choosing the right adhesive is essential for a strong, long-lasting bond.

Small, Detailed Parts

Cyanoacrylate (CA) Gel Glue

Quick, strong bond for small joints and detailed pieces.  Provides a slightly thicker hold and more working time for precise placement.

Larger Parts/Structural

Weld Bond (or similar white glue)

Strong, permanent bond for main structural components.

Other Options

Other glues specifically suitable for plastic/PLA can also be used.

Always test a small area first if using a new adhesive.

Special Note for Countertops:

When gluing the various countertop components together, lightly sand the edges of the pieces where they will join. This abrasion allows for better penetration and a stronger bond
